If you are one of those classmates, but want to continue being notified of future reunions and class news, please let me know. We want you if you want us!!!!!!!!!
We had over 40 visitors from the class of 1963 attending our Friday night social and 60 of our classmates and guests, making for a wonderful crowd and good time. Some of you just never seem to age.
The Banquet Saturday night drew a happy crowd of 55, we were set up for 70 but only had to pay for the 60 I had confirmed on Thursday. (This is why it is so important to get your money in early so I can have a more accurate count and save us money in the long run) The Invocation was given by Melvin Brand, who did a commendable job, followed by a "MEMORIAL TO DECEASED CLASSMATES" written and presented by our dear Mary (Schindler) Coffin. (Click here to see memorial in full). A buffet beautifully presented, decorated maroon and gold tables, good food and staff, which made for a truly enjoyable meal. I (Char (Lakson) Betts) filled in for Riley Barker as MC. A letter from Gma Char was read to all "THE HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS BUMPER STICKER STORY" (which can be seen by clicking here) Drawings for Clocks, T-shirts (56 prizes in all, donated by Gma Char's Specialty Shop in Pine Haven, WY) were presented thru out the evening. The Grand Prize of Gma Char's home canned Walleye Assholes in fish gut sauce was won by none other than Lanny Nelson. Every one was a winner Saturday night. Linda (Morris) McKay, our Miss LHS and the South Dakota 2003 TEACHER OF THE YEAR, gave a talk on her travels to the White House, lunch with the First Lady in the Rose Garden and more, also her upcoming trip to the Space Camp and the talk she gave on "Our Classmate she most admired " Harold "Gus" Gustafson and why, which can be seen by clicking here
Some suggestions made for memorials or class donations were: Yearly LHS Scholarships, Homestake Opera House seats, trees at National Cemetery. Please give me your input and suggestions before the 45th reunion in 2007.
A presentation was made to Char and her husband John by Wayne Plumb on behalf of the class, for their work on the reunion and web site just for the class of 1962. A black hills gold key chain for John, BH gold angel, giant coke mug, and $30.00 cash was presented to Char (me). We both thank all of you very much, we truly enjoy all that we do for the class of 62 reunions.
Suggestions were made for money makers at the next reunion were:We are open to any ideas you may have to help raise money. As you will see on the financial page, after paying the Lodge we were $11 dollars in the hole and need more stamps, rolls of film to be developed from reunion, etc.
- Have an auction or a silent auction at the banquet,
Everyone should bring something from their State like handicrafts or woodworking items, made by you or a friend (no livestock please).
The Benediction was given by Tom Richards with a short talk on how lucky we were to have lived when and where we lived growing up and the values instilled in us to this day.
We than retired to the Spearfish Canyon Resort across the street and continued our visiting until we turned into pumpkins and the bar was closed. What wonderful hosts we had at the Lodge and Latchstring. We all need to drop them a note of Thanks. We were not charged for the 3 day use of the Roughlock Room, at our disposal day and night, the TV/VCR, podium, microphone, etc. were all free to us (normally charged for).
Sunday morning Brunch was hosted by Mike & Debbie Truitt at their cabin in Hanna. Around 20 classmates and guests enjoyed pancakes, fruit, meat, drinks and good conversation.
The Buffalo Burger/Brat BBQ on Sunday was attended by a crowd of 40 as several classmates had to head for home with several miles in front of them. We all had a good visit, good food and discussed the 45 year reunion in 2007. We all returned to the Roughlock Room where several watched the 30 year video (for the 4th time that I know of since Friday afternoon.) Scrapbooks and year books from as far back as 1925 were on display for all to browse thru at their leisure. If you have old year books, pictures from our grade school/kindergarden days or anything of interest, please bring them with you or send me copies for the web site. All these things are truly of interest to us now that we are beginning to age.
The majority want to do exactly the same agenda and place for our 45th reunion so mark your calendars now.45TH REUNION; JUNE 29TH,30TH AND JULY 1ST, 2007 We will try to keep the cost around $50.00 each.
